Kittens are recommended to take their shots at 6-8 weeks according to WebMD, to ensure they are protected against the following common feline diseases:
Feline Panleukopenia Virus (FPL) - Deadly virus that causes gastrointestinal tract disease and dehydration.
Feline Rhinotracheitis (Feline Herpes Virus) - One of the viruses that causes chronic upper respiratory disease.
Feline Calicivirus (FCV) - One of the viruses that causes chronic upper respiratory disease.
Chlamydia psittaci - A bacteria-like organism that causes chronic mild upper respiratory disease in cats.
Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) - Virus causing cancer in cats and suppressing the cat's immune system.
Rabies - Fatal disease that affects brain and spinal cord of animals, where humans can be infected through bites from the infected animals.
My cat is turning 2 this year and she is a tough one for being healthy with her own natural immunity. I have had the thought of getting my cat vaccinated early this year but COVID-19 happened. Most pet clinics are only allowed to operate on a strict standard operating procedure (SOP) and the nearest clinic was not anywhere near at all.
When I moved to Seksyen 14 Petaling Jaya on September 2021, I discovered the nearest clinic (Right Angle Animal Clinic) which only takes 3 minutes by walking. It is located across my rental unit. I just had to call the clinic and made the appointment on that day itself.
A quick side story PUFF, on December 2019 a friend of mine was walking by a Chinese eatery in Subang Jaya and saw a kitten all alone. She sent me the first photo and asked if I wanted to adopt her. My heart sank, and it still is every time I am seeing the photo. I could not imagine the situations she had gone through, cold nights, probably hungry, looking for her mom that was nowhere to be found. Without any hesitation took her in and cared for her.
I myself was in a very difficult situation at that moment where just a few weeks before taking her in, I was diagnosed with a serious illness that I had no courage to share it with everyone, not even to my parents, until now. Let's just say, PUFF came into my life at the right moment and her existence has been nothing but a huge blessing and healing to my soul.
So, when I saw the opportunity to get her vaccinated I did not hesitate.
Dr. Thong, a veterinary doctor at the Right Angle Animal Clinic is very friendly and assisting in all my inquiries regarding the vaccines. She even recommended me Megestrol acetate (A hormonal pill that suppresses estrus in cats) since PUFF is on heat. The pill is fed to the cat once daily, for three days after eating. PUFF was also dewormed on the same day. The total cost for the vaccine, deworm and 3 Megestrol acetate pills was only RM70.
The appointment for spaying surgery was set a week after the vaccine shot. I was informed in-call by Dr. Thong (when making the vaccine appointment) that the surgery will cost RM235. There might be additional charges (I am not sure of this, I will keep posting on this space) for surgery cone, and medications. (Update: The total for the surgery was RM200, and I bought a cone, which cost RM50).
So far, Right Angle Animal Clinic only operates on cats. Everything includes the vaccination is by appointment basis only. Please call to reserve a slot before going to the clinic. The details are listed as below.
