Biochar-loaded Plant Probiotics, For A Greener and Sustainable Agriculture

Biochar emerges as a carrier for microorganisms in various biotechnological fields. The interest on this carbonaceous material stems from its physicochemical properties and microenvironment which can potentially harbor bacteria. In biotechnology, we are driven by the sustainable concept in our inventions and innovations. That is why, at the University of Malaya, my work focuses on developing a sustainable biofertilizer that is formulated using biochar in addition with plant beneficial microorganisms, in hope to reduce the application of chemical fertilizers in agriculture, at the same time boost the agricultural productivity in the region. This video was submitted to the Global Young Scientist Summit (GYSS 2022) organized by the National Research Foundation, the Prime Minister Office Singapore that will take place in Singapore next year. I talked about my research and the inspirations behind it. Hope you enjoy!
